Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT):

CBT works on the idea that when we are stressed or psychologically disturbed our thinking processes become disrupted in a way that makes us feel worse and sometimes behave in counter-productive ways. Reflecting on the way we think, feel and behave often allows us to develop a better perspective on our life situations and thereby to develop better and more helpful patterns and to overcome our psychological problems. CBT first developed as a treatment of depression but is now often regarded as a psychological treatment for many other sorts of problems such as anxieties, worry, relationship difficulties and addictions. There is strong evidence backing its effectiveness in many problem areas (see web links to BABCP and NICE below). A recent development has been the use of Mindfulness in CBT and Frank plans to establish a Mindfulness group at the Berkeley Centre in the Autumn of 2009.

Bristol CBT Centre/Frank’s current practice:
At present, Frank is the only CB therapist working at the Berkeley Centre. He has links with CB therapists and it is planned that over time some will come to join him at the Berkeley Centre. Frank believes strongly in a collaborative way of working and is regarded as a good listener and a warm, empathic person. He also believes in making flexible arrangements with clients and in adapting the form of CBT to the needs of the person as closely as possible. There are a lot of good self-help materials based on CBT and these may often be part of the therapy. Frank has also undertaken work for organisations such as training centres, medico-legal firms and companies and would be happy to discuss working with interested parties.

Referrals to see Frank at the Berkeley Centre should be made by calling him on 0117-9243574. His current fee is £60 per hour appointment.
